The biotic components that are found in a
location are affected by the combination of abiotic factors in that area.
This affects the distribution of plant and animal life in the Smokey River
Valley. The photograph shows the south-facing slope of the valley in the
distance, as photographed from the north-facing slope.
The south-facing slope receives considerably more
sunlight than the north-facing slope, and as a consequence has a drier
micro-climate than the north-facing slope. Our discussion of the plant and
animal life of the region will refer to these differences. |
