DISCIPLINE POLICY

*Please note that in this policy the word teacher may be substituted by T.A., parent, adult, supervisor, etc.

*The plan will apply to all students in the school, only the expectations will be different between the elementary and the junior/senior high.

*The time frame for the strike levels is one academic year.

PART A

i) In regular classroom situations and in the hallways, a student is allowed three "warnings". A "warning" is given to the student, at the teacher’s discretion, for actions or behavior that:

- are not conducive to the development of self-respect and respect for other persons or property,

-are disruptive to a positive, productive learning environment within which young people develop self-discipline and responsibility.

After three warnings, the student will receive a "strike".

*A confidential bookkeeping system will be established in the office for logging the "warnings" and "strikes" given to students during recess time.

ii) In non-regular classroom situations (i.e. science laboratory, IA shop, gymnasium or any classroom in which a special activity is taking place), there will be "zero tolerance". This means that there will be no "warnings". If the teacher feels that the student is a potential danger to the safety of others, the student will immediately receive a "strike".

In hallways, if the supervisor feels that the student is a potential danger to the safety of others, the student will also not receive any "warnings" but will immediately receive a "strike".

iii) In any classroom situation or in the hallway, the student will receive no "warnings" if he/she shows:

-open opposition to authority

-willful disobedience

-willful damage to property

-willful injury or endangerment to others

In this case, the student will automatically move to "STRIKE 3".
