Pennies for Patients

Home Up

Our students have again been involved in a small fundraiser, for fighting cancer.  Pennies for patients is a campaign through the School and Youth program that encourages students to collect spare change to support the mission to cure leukemia.  This "Pennies for Patients" activity, has been over whelming.  We collected pennies and lose change to improve the quality of life of patients and their families in Canada.

When students brought in lots of pennies their efforts were celebrated.

Our junior high students sorting, counting and rolling change.

Ten dollars weighs about 5 lbs ( we have a pound scale), so in the first 4 days our staff and students had collected about $400.00.  By the end of the week the school had collected, counted and rolled $1157.00.
We started the event with students "rock / paper/ scissoring for bags of pennies, and then we set the competition up with the elementary vs the jr / sr high students. The older students complained that their younger siblings had taken all the pennies from home.  At the end of the competition it was too late to catch the elementary kids.  We feel these friendly competitions for a good cause is good for our students.  We have had so much to be thankful for.
When we can appreciate what others lack in health, finances, love and then help to make their quality of life better, it is a great thing we do.  Our kids are doing great things and we are so proud of them.
