Sun Run Training

Vancouver Sun Run - Practices Monday's after school 3:30 - 4:30 Starting November 27th, 2006

WHY THE SUN RUN?  I  have been encouraging my students to become active kids and then hopefully active adults.  Some of us need more than just encouragement to maintain a fitness program. By having exciting goals in mind, makes running / walking / fitness programs fun and we keep to them better.  It will be nice to go through a winter of training to be rewarded with nice weather and a great race in Vancouver.  I am encouraging parents to come out and get fit with their kids.  We are all starting at different levels of fitness.

Week 1 was a hard week to start with the weather being very cold.  However we wrapped up, went out and enjoyed our crazy behavior.

Week 1:  November 27th:   -28 C  ( Burr! )

Week 2: December 4th:  - 5 C

Week 2

Week 3:  December 18th,    +4 C

Week 4, 5 and 6 we will be on our own, during the Christmas holidays.

For our Santa Shuffle we had a lot of the junior and senior high students away at a basketball game.  The rest of us had a beautiful run on a very nice warm day.  Everyone received a Santa hat to run in and a goodie bag.

Many thanks to the

Peace Wapiti School District

for approving our trip to Vancouver in April.

Week 7:  January 8th, 2007      -3 C             This week will be tough as a storm is coming in, and temperatures are to drop.

Week 8:  January 15th, - 2 C

Week 8: We decided to take a change of scenery.  We all went down to Watino after school and ran along the river from Fontaine's house.  Later we had a group gathering with lots of good snacks and great friends.

Week 8

The weather each Monday has been very nice.  We have been lucky to have nice weather for our group runs each week.

Week 9: Exams took a tole on the numbers who could come out today.  Mrs. Martin sorry you're sick today, the weather is beautiful.   Temp:  + 8 C.

  Wow it's warm!

Week 10:  Welcome Dylan.  A small crowd today as Mr. "P" had a basketball road trip and the high school students are on semester break.  Temp: -6 C  and no wind again beautiful weather for a run.

Week 10:  Mrs. Martin, Mrs. Connell & Mr. McKay's observations

Some of us are noticing that the running / walking is getting easier and easier.  Some day's it even feels like we are running instead of shuffling one foot in front of the other.  Our mile times have come way down and we are getting farther and farther each week.  Running on the treadmill is not the same as running outside, as the running outside is much harder.  The kids we have noticed are also going farther each week, and we are getting more and more kids and parents on board.  Some of the kids are following programs at home as they do not have a ride home after  the after school practices.

Week 11:  February 5th, 2007

Snow Day! No buses running!

Our Sun Run program has been sponsored by:

Our next event will be the Winter Triathlon that we all will have to compete in.  The three events will be skating, biking and running.  This is always a popular event.  It will happen within the first two weeks of March.

Week 12:  February 12th, 2007

 -26 C - no wind ( Thank goodness)

We dressed in layers for the cold weather, but we found that the full sun was very warm, and that Mrs. Connell made us dress too warm.

Thank you!
